This bouncy little lady got her nickname- Bunny- before I could come up with her actual name. She's a spunky little thing, though the one time we took her to a show for the experience, she bounced and flipped a little too much like the animal she is named after. She's the only doe kid Flash produced for us before her passing in 2018, and that is also the year Bunny finally freshened for the first time. Oh, three year old first fresheners, you are such a test of patience and delayed gratification. Her second freshening udder is well attached, with the highest rear udder height score in the herd, a strong MSL, excellent texture, with a strong foreudder, and she milks down really well. She is a bit of a beast to lead, so the jury is out as to when she'll end up in the show ring as there are a few other herd members who are also working on their show ring manners and there's only so much sudden yanking down on the lead us farmers (and our arm sockets) can take at any given event.

I love the long bone pattern on this doe. She's stretchy and dairy, with good general appearance, and her udder is attached everywhere with really good capacity, soft udder texture, large, easy to express teats. Aphrodite is long bodied, with a long rump, really nice angle to the rump, and dairy elegance. Just a week before our 2019 LA session, she spiked a fever and her lymph nodes got so swollen she had a hard time eating, and I was convinced her show season was going to be cut short. Thankfully, she recovered in time for appraisal, but lost a good deal of condition since she kept her milk production up even while eating very little. We are happy with her overall scores, but there's no doubt her general appearance suffered as a result. She's another aggressively friendly doe- there is no place I go that she isn't behind me like a shadow. Now if we could just get her to move when we want her to walk and to stand still when we need her to stand, that would be great.

Dam: SGCH Castle Rock Polar Vortex VEEE 91
(SG Castle Rock Cleveland Sage ++*B x GCH Castle Rock Snownamie 2*M 4*D VEEE 90)

I love the length of body on this Vortex daughter, and she seems to take after her dam in wanting to be in the middle of the action. I really like her length of body, long femenine neck, dairy skin, width across the hips, and how she looks on the move. She has a soft, milkable udder, and we are very pleased with the increase in capacity she has as a second freshener. Considering that she was less than two weeks into her lactation when we did our 2019 Linear Appraisal, we are very happy with her score. I mean, we'd be happy with the score even if she were three months into her lactation, but the fact that she managed to look this pulled together at less than two weeks fresh impresses us even more. We were very pleased with her showing at the National level, and as her udder continued to mature through the summer, she ended up close to the head of the line at regional shows, and even beat herd mate Sun Maid a time or two for first place.

In 2017, I made some drastic cuts to the herd to reduce size, which included selling my older Sarafina daughters, but managed to hang on to this one- probably because she was young and small when I was making those cuts! I'm quite happy to have retained this doe, who is just a nice, well balanced doe- good length of body, nice blending, she's long from hips to pins, and her front legs are well placed under her shoulders. Her first freshening udder had good texture, MSL and capacity- unfortunately, I accidentally let it get unbalanced enough that it was going to hamper her in the show ring, so she was dried off soon after our linear appraisal session, and of course I only remembered that we needed an updated picture after we started to dry does off.

Alexanndrina is and elegant doe with dairy strength, a fabulous front end assembly, good brisket extension, a long body, who walks naturally uphill. Her first freshening is what I was hoping for- she was often near or at the top of her age class, including at the ADGA National Show, where she earned first place out of 66 entries in the two year old class! So proud of her! She is a repeat of the pairing that produced big sisters SGCH Castle Rock Angelika VVEE 91, and CH Castle Rock Nikita EEEE 91, so we have very high hopes for how she will mature.

There is no picture in which this doe looks happy, which is unfortunate, because she is very in-your-face affectionate most of the time. As a kid, she managed to unhook a mineral feeder from a carabiner that was holding it, and then managed to hook herself on the carabiner like a fish on a hook. Thank goodness I was home at the time and heard her screams, and was able to unhook her and clean the wound quickly. The way her lip healed from this sort of makes it look like she's always a little miffed, which she only is if you are trying to lead her somewhere, which she will make clear by laying down- a lovely trait that comes directly from grandma Sara. Jevo (pronounced YAY-VO), pictured here in her "working clothes", is a very dairy individual, being long bodied, feminine, and angular, with a flat bone pattern and good front end assembly. I like her area of udder attachment, texture, and plumbness of teats; we are looking forward to seeing more depth of body as she matures.

I was a little surprised to cross two same-color of buckskin goats and get a pure black goat, but, being a sucker for black goats, I was delighted. Her sire, Jasper, had a bit of a rough time transitioning from temperate Oregon to the roasting heat of Vacaville, so I was just thrilled to finally have a daughter of his on the ground, and she is turning out to be very much what I was hoping for. She's long bodied, has a good rump angle, is femenine, elegant, and has a very nicely shaped and attached udder, with large, well defined, easy to milk teats. Persephone has developed a good deal of depth and width, and is starting to really remind me of Black Ice. She's very people oriented, eager to get on the milk stand, and an overall joy to have on the farm. Her nickname is "The Void" due to being completely black, and because it's just nice to have a void to stare at some days, who will stare back and snuggle into you.

We've taken updated pictures of Cloud, but she always looks like she's contemplating our painful demise in them, so this picture of her as a first freshening three year old will have to do until she gets less irritated about (waves hand at everything). Cloud is a nicely blended dairy doe, with an udder that is socked on and very well attached, plumb teasts and a strong medial. Freshening for the first time as a three year old did her no favors in the show ring, though she managed to earn a few ribbons as a second freshening four year old, and hasn't been in the show ring much since, due partly to a limited show schedule and a large number of 2019-born herdmates competing for ring time. Ideally, she'd be a little longer bodied, with a rump that levels out a bit more on the move, but she's otherwise a very eyecatching doe who is downright determined to teach our herding dogs a lesson or two about personal space.

Sire: Castle Rock Eros

Dam: Castle Rock Sugar Snow
(Castle Rock Moon Raker +*B x SGCH AGS CRF Castle Rock Blizzard 1*M VEEE 91)

Pictured here as a first freshener, Snowdrift is a quiet doe who is part of the very large number of does I ended up holding onto from 2019, partly due to the total loss of all retained kids from 2020. Due to the large number of goats that age and the somewhat limited number of shows I've been to while rebuilding our farm, she hasn't had much of a chance to strut her stuff, but we're hoping to fix that in 2026. I appreciate her length of body and her area of udder attachment.

This is a repeat of the breeding that got us CH Castle Rock Goodnight Moon VEEE 91, and as close as we could get to repeating Moon Beam (Jasper is a littermate brother to Tanzanite, Moon Beam's sire) as we've seen these lines cross well numerous times. Feather has a good amount of dairy strength, an excellent back and a wide rump. I appreciate her height of rear udder, teat size and deliniation- she's an easy hand milker, and moves around on a strong set of feet and legs.

Dam: CH Castle Rock Easter Bonnet

When I was looking over Bonnie's 2019 litter of kids, I decided to keep Night Cap because she was the prettiest, Hennin because she casptured my heart. Lucky for me both does grew up to be very nice. Hennin did well on Linear Appraisal as a second freshening two year old, scoring an E for back, rump, dairy strength, and mammary system. Hennin does *not* like showing though, which usually doesn't bode well for staying in this herd, but for now she gets to stay because she's so sweet and dairy.
